SCHOOLING
Building Contractor Ltd
Teignmouth Devon UK

All of our team have attended a training event which encompasses the Working at Height Regs 2005. This is one of several areas we run training every 3 years as a refresher. The majority of our Working at Height is carried out from
All of our regular sub contractors are expected to complete and return an annual agreement, this will also include copies of all of our updated policies including Health & Safety. ALL Sub Contractors are also required to complete an assessment this gives us details of their competencies, qualifications, insurances, tax details and health & safety policy / statement
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007
The principal aim of these regulations is to raise the standard of health & safety in the building and construction industry. This is to be achieved by improving co-ordination between the various parties involved at the preparation stage of a project. Managers have received specific training in these Regulations and Supervisors have knowledge of the regulations and duties. CDM Regs form part of our CPD plans.
'Quality Workmanship by a Qualified Workforce'
Contractors Health & Safety Scheme
CHAS approval means that we have demonstrated adequate documentation compliance with current H&S legislation and that we have adequate H&S management arrangements. In the same way that Constructionline offer financial vetting of contractors negating the need for multiple assessments of financial standing, so CHAS offers the same service for H&S. Our assessment is due every March.

Health & Safety Test
In order to gain their CSCS card, ALL employees must participate and pass a Health & Safety Test in order to gain or renew their CSCS cards. ALL of our own directly employed team hold a valid CSCS card.
Personal Protective Equipment
We provide all of our employees with a selection of PPE to carry out their jobs safely, ultimately we assess tasks so an alternative method can be used.
Working Safely
Our team and regular sub contractors have worked in several areas where Health & Safety is a key issue, this may range from secure units where there is a risk of personal harm, to hospitals where cleanliness is a key issue to ensure infection control.
Where a project falls under CDM Regs 2007, a RA and Method Statement will be produced and communicated to everyone on the project. We also have our own Health & Safety Checklist for Supervisors to complete, along with a weekly check for all employees as part of their time sheets. Any serious concerns however are reported immediately to a Supervisor.
(The Control of Asbestos
Regulations 2006)

Health & Safety
All of our Site operatives have had regular certificated asbestos training and Working with Asbestos / Facefit Certification. Working with asbestos is planned and the right controls are in place (ie we have the right equipment);

With refurbishment contracts we are generally issued with an Asbestos Register for the site this will tell us if the materials are asbestos cement, textured coatings and others which do not need a licence. In the event an employee discovers potential asbestos a Manager will be called and works will stop until the material can be tested / identified.
